4 September 08

Juan Gasparini/HRT

The new President of the Human Rights Council, Martin Uhomoibhi of Nigeria, has made his choices for the Special Rapporteurs selected by the ‘consultative group’ composed of Ambassadors from each continent.

His first pick is Ms. Monorama Biswas of Bangladesh as the expert for the working group on African descendants representing the Asian continent along with Mirjana Najcevska of Macedonia. Olivier de Frouville of France would represent Western nations as expert for the working group on forced disappearances and Catarina de Albuquerque of Portugal as the Special Rapporteur for the right to water.

His choices must be approved approved by the Council on September 23.
